Press Room

Special Olympics is a global movement that unleashes the human spirit through the transformative power and joy of sports. We empower people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to become accepted and valued members of their communities, which leads to a more respectful and inclusive society for all.

In Washington State, we provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for thousands of children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Learn more about Special Olympics Washington’s impact on the community, including our latest data, in our 2022 Year in Review.
