2020-2021 Winter Season – moved to VIRTUAL!

Special Olympics Washington Status Update
October 16, 2020

Based on guidance we are receiving from the CDC, local health authorities and community partners,
the 2021 Winter Season will not include region- and state-level competitions.

Special Olympics Washington is re-assessing our “Return to Play” phase plan to determine if and how
we might allow participants to safely gather in small groups within their own communities. This has
not yet been decided. Any changes will come from your Area Director.

A decision for the 2021 Spring season events will be determined in February 2021. Area Directors will
be updated and will inform the rest of their Area.

FYI: A variety of exciting “competitive options” will be available during our upcoming VIRTUAL WINTER SEASON! The season begins on January 4, 2021 – sign up is NOW LIVE!

2021 Spring Season

Special Olympics Washington Status Update
February 19th, 2021

Special Olympics Washington staff, Area Leadership Teams, and volunteers are committed to
providing as much opportunity for athletes to connect as we possibly can during this unique
time. Please view below for major highlights and events happening now!

Here are some updates related to our current and future seasons:

Special Olympics Washington will remain virtual for the 2021 spring season and will not
be hosting local, region or state events. No in-person training, practices, or
gatherings of any kind are permitted.

Because of your feedback we are approaching our virtual spring season and
virtual competitions differently than we have the past three seasons. Rather than
offering athletes opportunities to train and compete in a set of sports, we are rallying
the greater Special Olympics Washington community – athletes, coaches, volunteers,
Unified partners, sponsors, friends, and family – around a six-week training and
competition program designed to keep everyone walking, rolling and running through
May and June. This will allow us to raise critical funds to continue programming now
and beyond the pandemic. It will be fun and engaging, and we cannot wait to tell you
more about it soon. Stay tuned!

2021 Summer Season

Special Olympics Washington Status Update
February 19th, 2021

Special Olympics Washington is currently reviewing our “Return to Activities” phase
plan to determine how we will allow participants to safely gather in small groups within
their own communities. We will continue to work on our updated plan with the
hopes to provide local in person for summer season. Summer in-person
participation is not guaranteed.
