Every year, dedicated members of the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) community carry the “Flame of Hope” throughout Washington State to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics Washington athletes. This year’s event was a tremendous success, with participation and support reaching new heights since the pandemic, demonstrating a strong comeback.
Participation in the Torch Run saw an impressive increase, with more than double the number of agencies involved compared to last year. This growth reflects the rising support and commitment to the cause. Additionally, numerous athletes joined in the runs, making the event even more special.
As the largest fundraiser for Special Olympics globally, the Torch Run supports year-round sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). This year’s main leg of the Torch Run commenced at the Peace Arch in Blaine on June 5 and concluded at Pacific Lutheran University, marking the beginning of the Opening Ceremonies at the State Spring Games on June 7. This journey not only embodies the flame of hope but also generates vital funds and awareness for Special Olympics Washington athletes.
A standout moment of the event was the gathering at Blue Steele Coffee Company, where participants enjoyed a sense of community and mutual support during a pre-party celebration before the final mile into the Opening Ceremonies for the State Spring Games. Blue Steele Coffee Company generously donated a portion of their proceeds from sales over the weekend to Special Olympics Washington, further contributing to the event’s success. The gathering was filled with games, music, and an atmosphere of excitement and camaraderie.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated, donated, and supported this year’s Law Enforcement Torch Run. Your contributions help create opportunities for athletes with IDD to experience the joy of sport and the power of inclusion.
As we continue to celebrate the incredible achievements of our athletes and the profound impact of Special Olympics Washington, we want to remind you that there are still a few Torch Runs happening! Join us in supporting this vital movement.
