From early morning practices to national-level goals, Team Washington’s swimming delegation is preparing to take on the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games in Minnesota this summer.

Representing communities across Washington, these athletes bring determination, discipline, and a strong sense of connection to their teams both in and out of the pool. Along the way, swimming has helped them build confidence, friendships, leadership skills, and opportunities that extend far beyond competition.

This summer, they’ll represent Team Washington on one of the biggest stages in Special Olympics.

Gabriella “Gabby” Robl

Gabriella “Gabby” Robl of Kirkland began swimming with Special Olympics in 2022 and quickly found a supportive team environment that helped her grow as both an athlete and leader.

Through the program, Gabby has built lasting friendships while continuing to develop her skills in the pool. She is especially proud of graduating from high school and preparing to attend college while balancing training and competition.

As she looks ahead to Minnesota, Gabby is excited for the opportunity to travel independently, meet athletes from across the country, and compete at the USA Games.

Silvie Storbakken

Silvie Storbakken of Normandy Park first joined Special Olympics through alpine skiing in 2023 before expanding into swimming and golf. Since then, she has discovered a passion for competition while continuing to build confidence and friendships through sport.

Silvie has already earned gold medals in both swimming and alpine skiing and stays active year-round through Tae Kwon Do, skating, and horseback riding. She looks forward to competing alongside her teammates and experiencing the USA Games this summer.

Alexander “Alex” Brons

Alexander “Alex” Brons of Ellensburg competes in swimming and has also participated in bowling, basketball, and cycling through Special Olympics Washington.

Alex enjoys staying active, competing with teammates, and building friendships through athletics. Outside of sports, he is also proud of earning recognition at the Puyallup Fair for growing a 125-pound pumpkin.

As he prepares for competition, Alex continues spending consistent time in the pool and looks forward to racing against athletes from across the country.

Samuel “Sam” Nelson

Samuel “Sam” Nelson of Seattle has spent the last 10 years involved with Special Olympics, competing in swimming along with Unified basketball, soccer, and flag football.

In addition to athletics, Sam volunteers throughout the Seattle community, including with the Seattle Aquarium and local food banks. He also enjoys making music and writing songs in his free time.

Through sport, Sam has developed leadership skills, friendships, and a strong connection to his teammates while continuing to challenge himself in and out of the pool.

The USA Games will bring together athletes from across all 50 states for a week of competition, connection, and inclusion.

As Team Washington’s swimming delegation prepares for Minnesota, these athletes continue training, competing, and pushing themselves toward new goals every day.

Together, they represent the growth, discipline, and resilience that continue to define Special Olympics Washington.
