Special Olympics Washington (SOWA) supports the principle of “Nothing About Us Without Us” when it comes to including athletes in the planning and implementation of programming. If you compete with SOWA, we invite you to share your ideas, volunteer at events, and help lead the movement.

SOWA athletes currently serve or have served in a variety of leadership roles, including:
SOWA Board Members
2018 USA Games Board Members
Coaches
Team Captains
Event Volunteers
Ambassadors (Public Speakers)
Athlete Input Council Members
Area Leadership Team Members
Health Ambassadors
And more…
In addition to the standard training we have for these roles, we also offer additional workshops and training materials if needed. Volunteers without disabilities can take these trainings as well. We also have disability awareness and inclusion training to help volunteers without disabilities lead inclusively alongside those with disabilities.
