Position Title: Initiatives Manager

Terms: Full-time exempt position

Reports to: Director, Area Services

Primary Job Function: Oversee development of Athlete Leadership, Family Support, and Young Athletes

Description:

This position oversees three major initiatives within Special Olympics programming: Athlete Leadership, Family Support and Young Athletes (YA). This position will work to establish consistent and robust programs for each initiative that includes recruitment of volunteers to support these initiatives within each Area Leadership Team (Special Olympics Washington has split the state into 11 areas, each managed by a group of volunteers). The overall goal is to provide additional support and community resources to athletes of all ages and their families.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Disability Studies, Human Development, Communications or related field. Excellent interpersonal, computer and communications skills required.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Recruit and train volunteers to fill related positions on each Area Leadership Team (Family Support Coordinator, YA Coordinator, Athlete Leadership Coordinator)
  • Learn and train different Area Leadership Team (ALT) roles to input contacts and registrations into Games Management System (GMS)
  • Facilitate monthly state Athlete Input Councils (AICs)
  • Create robust plan for how to integrate these initiatives into regional/state games
  • Train volunteers to administer YA exhibitions at regional and state games, and additional Special Olympics Washington events
  • Create a transition plan for YA participants to continue in further Special Olympicsprogramming
  • Create a YA Coaches training program
  • Develop strategy for Athlete Leadership Program in Washington state (in partnership with Director, Area Services)
  • Assist with the selection and training of Athlete Input Council facilitators in areas(where they do not currently exist)
  • Assist in the development of a tracking system for all Athlete Input Council feedback
  • Work with Family Support Coordinator on each ALT to create database of families in need of continual support and resources (connect with FamilySupport Network)
  • Create communication pathways for families and athletes to submit questions, feedback, or concerns
  • Attend one ALT meeting per area within 1st quarter of employment
  • Attend all meetings related to job responsibilities and duties
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Title: Manager, Area Services (West)

Terms: Full-time exempt position

Reports to: Director, Area Services

Primary Job Function: Recruit, train, support, and grow Area Leadership Teams

Description:

The position of Manager, Area Services focuses on organizing, analyzing, and planning of Area Leadership Teams (Special Olympics Washington has split the state into 11 areas, each managed by a group of volunteers), year-to-year operations and strategies including budgeting and finance in 5 of the 11 areas in Washington state. This position will lead the effort to recruit, train and support existing volunteer Area Leadership teams; serve as the liaison between Area Leadership Teams and other Special Olympics Washington staff; and develop materials and strategies to enhance overall area program operations, fundraising, initiatives and outreach.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Business Management, or related field; or five (5) years equivalent work experience. Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment. Excellent interpersonal, computer and communications skills required.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership; recruit, train, support and track development of volunteer AreaDirector and other volunteer Area Leadership positions
    o Act as the primary point of contact for newly developed Area Directors and work with Special Olympics staff to make sure new Area Directors are well-oriented
  • Work with Area Director and Finance Coordinator (part of Area Leadership Team) to create robust budget and fundraising plan for the area that includes local programs, to ensure all expenses are anticipated and covered
  • Actively manage and process expenses incurred by Areas; processing purchase orders and invoices, managing relationship with vendors, etc.
  • Work with each Area Leadership Team to identify priorities/goals for the year and implement benchmarks to help support continual progress
  • Create and implement new ways for Area Directors to better collaborate with one another (best practices, new strategies, etc.)
  • Partner with Special Olympics Washington development department and AreaLeadership Teams to recruit community partners and sponsors to provide resources to support local athletes (i.e. local pro-sports teams, businesses, Law EnforcementTorch Run, etc.)
  • Responsible for working with the Area Leadership Teams to organize athlete growth plan, including; strategies, tracking and management
  • Serve as a liaison between Area Leadership Teams and other Special Olympics Washington staff
  • Support ALTs and Senior Region Sports Managers in processing registration paperwork for sports tournaments
  • Support the Initiatives Manager in the roll-out of Young Athletes, AthleteLeadership, and Family Support Program
  • Develop materials to enhance overall Area operations, fundraising and outreach
  • Successfully complete other duties as assigned
